A group of youth allegedly threw black ink on the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru in Naya Bazar area of Badaun town, following which Congress today staged a dharna and warned of a statewide agitation if the culprits were not arrested immediately.

According to the police, four to five youth on two motorcycles reached Naya Bazar yesterday evening and fled after throwing the ink on Nehru's statue.

The youth had their faces covered, police said, adding that on the basis of a complaint by party district unit president, Ram Kumar, an FIR has been lodged against unnamed persons.

The Congressmen, led by party's western districts incharge Pankaj Malik, staged the dharna at the Collectorate.

"If those behind the incident are not arrested immediately, the party will launch a state wide agitation," Malik said addressing the workers.
