The youths, belonging to a student outfit allegedly affiliated to BSP, tried to damage property and attempt arson at Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena president Jaani's residence in Shivshakti nagar under Brahmapuri police station last night, SP (City) Om Prakash said today.

However, they were stopped by police, who have been deployed at Jaani's home as a precautionary measure since the July 26 incident in Lucknow, the SP said.

Jaani was arrested yesterday along with other accused for allegedly vandalising the former UP chief minister's statue on July 26.

The accused had broken the head and damaged the arms of the nearly four-feet high statue of Mayawati installed at the Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal.
