Two youths who chopped off the ear of a 24-year-old student preparing for civil services examinations over a petty dispute have been arrested in Timarpur area of north Delhi, police said today.

Police said that victim Gaurav Singh, native of Hapur (UP) lived in a rented accommodation in Timarpur where his two neighbours attacked him and chopped off his left ear, at around 11.30 pm on Saturday.

The accused Pankaj and Manjeet who had been absconding after the incident have been arrested, said a senior police officer.

On the day of the incident, the elderly landlady of Gaurav had asked him to go to the neighbouring youths and ask them to check their overfilled tank as its watter was spilling over to her own house.

Gaurav, who was preparing for civil services, went to the duo to ask them to turn off their water pump and there was some altercation after which he came back to his place.

Later, the duo allegedly armed with sticks and sharp edged weapons attacked him in his room and chopped off his left ear, he said.

Police reached the spot after receiving a PCR call and rushed him to hospital where doctors operated on him to attach the severed portion of his ear. The accused who were absconding were later arrested, he added.
