The YSR Congress party today appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfil the assurances on according special category status for Andhra Pradesh.

YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy said his party MPs were on fast for the fourth day now.

"Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, V Prasada Rao and Y V Subba Reddy have already been hospitalised," YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy said in a tweet.

"Narendra Modiji, the lives of these MPs and the future of the people of AP are at stake," he said.

"Requesting you to please fulfil the promise you made to us on special category status," he added.

In a statement, the party asked why the Telugu Desam Party MPs were not resigning from their posts over the special category status (SCS) issue.

The main opposition party posed several questions to the ruling party on the SCS issue asking why the TDP MPs were not following YSR congress lawmakers in observing an indefinite fast.

"Would there not be a nation-wide debate if all 25 MPs from the state quit their posts? Would it not mount pressure on the Centre and force it to accord SCS to AP," the statement said.

It also asked why the TDP chief and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu was giving "lame excuses" for his party MPs not resigning.

"Would it not be an opportunity for people to express their view firmly on SCS if bypolls are conducted (consequent to the resignation of MPs)? Knowing this, why is Naidu not making his party MPs resign," it said.
