The Speaker of Zambian National Assembly Patrick Matibini recently underwent a surgical treatment for a shoulder joint related-ailment here and is admitted in Indraprastha Apollo Hospital.

Matibini was admitted on July 21 with signs of shoulder stiffness.

Doctors performed an arthroscopic surgery on him for the rectification.

Explaining the surgery, Dr Rajeev K Sharma, Senior Consultant, Orthopedics and Joint Replacement Surgeon, said that in this surgery a type of endoscope is inserted into the problem area through small incision.

"This type of surgery is technically demanding and it takes less time, gives immediate relief and the patient can go home in next 24-48 hrs. In Dr Matibini's case, he is doing absolutely fine, he is able to move his shoulder and is ready to go back home," said Sharma.

He said that rather than travelling to a highly developed South Africa which is next door, Zambians are choosing to come all the way to New Delhi for medical services.
