Zeel, Mahak, Sai in round two

Wild cards Mahak Jai and Zeel Desai along with qualifier Sai Samhita Chamarthi entered the second at the USD 25000 Pune Open ITF women's championships today.

National champion and wild card Mahak Jain struggled to get past Ramya Natarajan 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 while national runner up and India No1 junior, Zeel Desai, outplayed qualifier Shivani Ingle 6-2, 6-1.

Former national champion and qualifier Sai Samhitha Chamarthi overwhelmed Dhruthi Venugopal 6-0, 6-3 to make it to the round of sixteen.

Bunyawi Thamchaiwat of Thailand came back from the loss of the first set to get past Rishika Sunkara 4-6, 6-0, 6-1, Singapore's Stefanie Tan blanked Sowjanya Bavisetti 6-0, 6-2 and fifth seeded Pei-Chi Lee of Taipei before got past Natasha Palha 7-5, 6-3.
 

In a major upset in doubles, Prerna Bhambri and Nidhi Chilumula toppled top seeds Karman Kaur Thandi and Ana Veselinovic of Montenegro 4-6, 7-6(7), 10-7.
