Actor-singer Zendaya has been cast as the lead in the pilot of "Euphoria", HBO has announced.
The network had given an order for pilot to the potential series in March. It is based on Israeli series of the same name.
Zendaya will portray the role of Rue, a lying drug-addicted 17-year-old girl in the series, which will be helmed by Augustine Frizzell, reported Deadline.
Written by Sam Levinson, the show will also feature Storm Reid, Maude Apatow, Brian Bradley, Eric Dane, Angus Cloud, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Nika King, Hunter Schafer and Sydney Sweeney.
It revolves around the story of drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship as told by Rue.
The Israeli show was created by Ron Leshem, Daphna Levin and Tmira Yardeni, who also serve as executive producers on the US version.
The show will be produced by A24. Ravi Nandan, Kevin Turen, Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, Mirit Toovi, Yoram Mokadi, and Gary Lennon will also executive produce.
