A Zimbabwean woman has been arrested for allegedly smuggling narcotic drugs worth Rs 12.5 lakh from the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.

The incident occurred early yesterday when CISF security personnel detected suspicious movements of the woman, identified as Moyo Sandra (24), who had arrived at the international terminal of the airport to take a flight to Johannesburg via Abu Dhabi.

"Upon scanning, security personnel recovered two suspicious packets weighing about 12.5 kg from her baggage. The contents of the said two bags were later found to be pseudoephedrine, a banned drug," a senior CISF officer said.

The security officials later called in anti-narcotics sleuths who arrested the woman under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).

The estimated value of the seized drugs is about Rs 12.5 lakh in the international market, they said.
