Zinc prices inched up by 0.21 per cent to Rs 219.50 per kg in futures market today as participants built up fresh positions, taking positive cues from the domestic spot market on improved demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in February edged up by 45 paise, or 0.21 per cent, to Rs 219.50 per kg in business turnover of 1,760 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in March contracts was trading higher by 35 paise, or 0.16 per cent, to Rs 219.05 per kg in 162 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions created by traders due to pick up in demand from consuming industries in the physical market, drove the upside in zinc prices.
