Zinc prices advanced by 0.34 per cent to Rs 177.95 per kg in futures trade today as speculators built up positions, tracking a firm trend at the spot market on surging demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in July edged up by 60 paise, or 0.34 per cent, to Rs 177.95 per kg in business turnover of 1832 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in August contracts was up by 55 paise, or 0.31 per cent, to Rs 178 per kg in 80 lots.

Analysts said expanding of positions by participants on the back of soaring demand from consuming industries in the spot market, kept zinc prices higher in futures trade.
