Zinc prices strengthened by 0.40 per cent to Rs 215.50 per kg in futures market today as participants built up fresh positions, taking positive cues from the domestic spot market on pick up in demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in April edged higher by 85 paise, or 0.40 per cent, to Rs 215.50 per kg in business turnover of 714 lots.

On similar lines, the metal for delivery in May contracts rose 85 paise, or 0.39 per cent, to Rs 216.20 per kg in 33 lots.

Analysts said, fresh positions created by traders after an upsurge in demand from consuming industries in the physical market, drove the upside in zinc prices in futures trade.
