Zinc prices edged higher by 0.48 per cent to Rs 209.45 per kg in futures trade today as participants built up fresh positions, taking positive cues from the domestic spot market on uptick in demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in March edged up by Re 1, or 0.48 per cent, to Rs 209.45 per kg in a business turnover of 1,124 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in April contracts was trading higher by 85 paise, or 0.41 per cent, to Rs 209.85 per kg in 52 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions created by traders due to upsurge in demand from consuming industries in the physical market, drove the upside in zinc prices in futures trade.
