Zinc prices went up by 0.68 per cent to Rs 198.60 per kg in futures trade today as speculators built up positions following uptick in demand in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in September moved up by Rs 1.35, or 0.68 per cent to Rs 198.60 per kg in business turnover of 330 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in August contracts gained Rs 1.15, or 0.58 per cent to Rs 198.20 per kg in 1,122 lots.

Marketmen said fresh positions created by participants due to pick up in demand in the spot market, mainly led to rise in zinc prices at futures trade.
