Zinc prices traded higher by 0.56 per cent to Rs 171.40 per kg in futures market today as traders created fresh positions, driven by upsurge in demand in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in December went up by 95 paise, or 0.56 per cent, to Rs 171.40 per kg, in a business turnover of 285 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in January was trading higher by 85 paise, or 0.50 per cent, to Rs 171.80 per kg in 173 lots.

Market analysts attributed the rise in zinc futures to pick up in demand from consuming industries in the spot market.
