Zinc up 0.4% on overseas cues, spot demand

Metal for delivery in October also rose by 0.31%

Zinc futures edged up by 0.38% to Rs 143.85 per kg today as speculators enlarged positions amid positive cues from global markets and rising domestic demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in September was up by Rs 2.55, or 0.38%, to Rs 143.85 per kg with a business turnover of 1,248 lots.

The metal for delivery in October also rose by 45 paise, or 0.31%, to Rs 144.40 per kg with a business turnover of 16 lots.

Marketmen said besides improved demand in the spot market, a strength in base metals overseas after data signalled

improving economic conditions in the US and China, the biggest metals consumers, supported the upside in zinc prices at futures trade.
