Zinc, nickel strengthen on increased demand, global cues

Prices of zinc and nickel moved up by Rs 2 per kg at the local non-ferrous metal market today on increased demand from consuming industries amidst a firm global trend.

Traders said sentiments turned better after zinc advanced in global markets, on speculation that global demand for the metal used in steel auto parts and brass plumbing fixtures will exceed supply.

Meanwhile, zinc for delivery in three months was up 0.4 per cent at USD 2,273 metric a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.

In the national capital, zinc ingot and nickel (4x4) were up by Rs 2 each to Rs 116-122 and Rs 1,102-1,108 per kg respectively.

Zinc ingot 116-122, Nickel plate (4x4) 1,102-1,108, Gun metal scrap 227, Bell metal scrap 229, Copper mixed scrap 434, Chadri deshi 285.

Lead ingot 109, Lead imported 107, Aluminium ingots 168, Aluminium sheet cutting 169, Aluminium wire scrap 171 and Aluminium utensils scrap 168.
