ZNP seeks commercial helicopter service between

Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) today urged the Mizoram government to operate commercial helicopter service between Aizawl and Churachandpur in neighbouring Manipur.

A press statement issued by ZNP said that the Aizawl-Imphal Air India flight was discontinued since Sunday last inconveniencing people of both the neighbouring states.

"The people of Mizoram and Manipur can now visit each other only by flights via Guwahati," the statement said, adding that the people of Mizoram and Mizo tribal community in Manipur could no longer visit each other.

The statement also said that students from Manipur in the Mizoram University, College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry and Regional Institute of Para-medical and Nursing Sciences in Aizawl were facing extreme hardships due to discontinuation of the flights as also medical students from Mizoram studying in the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal.
 

The ZNP urged the state government to approach the Civil Aviation Ministry and Air India for expeditious resumption of the Aizawl-Imphal flights and demanded that helicopter service be commenced immediately between Aizawl and Churachandpur.
