Services in public sector banks in the eastern region were paralysed today following a strike by employees demanding implementation of pay revision.

The strike was called by United Forum of Banking Unions (UFBU), the umbrella body of banking unions, to press for the demand of wage revision.

UFBU had given a call for zonal strikes in all the regions in rotation from December two to December five.

The southern zone would go on strike tomorrow.

An UFBU spokesman said that the Indian Banks Association (IBA) was rigid on its stand of 13 per cent hike while the unions were demanding a raise of 23 per cent.

Most of the ATMs in the city became dry in the afternoon due to non-replenishment of cash.
