Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today claimed that the state would be the first in the country to put amphibious aircraft into service which will lead to increased connectivity with the North East region.

"When the aircraft is introduced it will revolutionise connectivity with the region and lead to speedy development of Assam and the North East", Sonowal said after witnessing a demonstration of an amphibious aircraft at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati.

The aircraft, designed by Setkouchi Holdings of Japan, can take off and land from both short, unimproved strips and water bodies.

Such a ground-breaking initiative will be the first in the country and it is being considered to be introduced in Assam to improve regional air connectivity, he said.

Once the aircraft is introduced, smaller places which have hitherto remained unconnected due to infrastructural bottleneck can be brought into flying map, Sonowal said.

The aircraft will also give a big boost to Prime Minister Narendra Modis dream of regional connectivity, he added.
