RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - Petroleo Brasileiro SA's board will become more professional in coming months, taking on members respected by the market to replace politicians, the Brazilian state-controlled oil company's newest director told Reuters on Monday.

Luiz Navarro, 49, a lawyer with Veirano Advogados in Brasilia, also said the government, which appointed him, has made no demands on how he vote. His term begins later this month. [ID:nL1N0W11V5]

In an interview, he said he feels free to fight corruption and clean up a contracting process that has helped slash 60 percent off the company's share price in six months, landing Petrobras, as the company is known, in its worst-ever crisis.
