The Mysore District Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Association (MDMSMEA) has sought the creation of infrastructure in the industrial areas of Mysore to attract new investors and boost industrial activity.

In a set of demands for inclusion in the 2012-13 budget of the state government, it suggested to the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) the development and management of 4,000 acres now under acquisition process in addition to the existing industrial area of 6,500 acres. “Mysore has the second largest industrial area after Bangalore and thus the Mysore industrial area is uniquely placed in the industrial map of the state,” Association General Secretary Sureshkumar Jain said in a letter to the principal secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce who is also the KIADB chairman.

Towards this end, a major proposal that has been made is for an investment of Rs 75 crore on improving the roads in the industrial areas by widening, repairs and modernisation, besides drainage system.Another major suggestion is for initiating process for setting up “Mysore Industrial Township Authority” by designating the KIADB development officers as authority’s nodal officers/chief promoters.

The general secretary has also pleaded inclusion in the budget proposals construction of a helipad for the benefit of major industries located in Hebbal, Metagalli, Hootagalli, Belagola, Koorgalli, Belavadi and Pura-Anaganahalli industrial areas of Mysore.

A public-private partnership model for the maintenance of street lights in the industrial estates with modern technology and by adopting solar energy harvesting is another suggestion made by MDMSMEA. Rs 10 crore has been sought for replacement of the 30-year-old water pipelines and motor pumpsets in addition to installation of generators.

Drawing attention to KIADB’s earlier resolution, Jain suggested a 20-acre land for the collection and disposal of solid waste in the Koorgalli industrial area. Sanction has also been sought for housing facilities for industrial workers, staff and industry owners in accordance with 2009-14 industrial policy.

Another important facility sought by the MDMSMEA to be included in the 2012-13 budget is construction of a Rs 50 crore business convention centre, seeking financial support from Central agencies on a 50-acre land in Mysore.

It has suggested for development of separate industry-wise clusters like electronic, food, general engineering, textiles, chemicals, packaging, granite among others for their orderly growth in the new industry area. Besides, sites may be reserved at 30 per cent each for micro and big industries, and 20 per cent each for small and medium industries MDMSMEA said pleading for steps to check real estate operation in industrial areas. While making these suggestions, Jain has assured MDMSMEA’s total support in their execution.
