UB`s Palakkad plant wins anti-pollution award

An official spokesperson said the Award was an annual prize instituted by the KSPCB to encourage manufacturing and service organisations to make sustained efforts to protect environment and control all types of pollution during the calendar year.

Separate awards are distributed to large, medium and small scale industries classified on the basis of capital investment. UB was awarded a trophy, certificate of merit and cash prize worth Rs 50,000 by Minister for Health and Social Welfare PK Srimathi.

 

According to Cedric Vaz, executive vice-president, Manufacturing, UB Ltd: "United Breweries Ltd, Palakkad, has consistently been proactive and have been making pioneering efforts in environment protection and preservation. It has been our constant endeavour to give back to the society that we work in, as much as we can".

The winners were picked from among numerous applicants by an expert committee consisting of eminent academician, environmentalists, scientists, KPCB officials and board members.

The assessment was made based on the quality and efficiency of pollution control and environment protection measures taken by the companies, cleanliness and hygiene of their premises, actions to control emission at source, submission of mandatory reports, adoption and implementation of new technologies and recycling of treated effluents.
