The call rates, which opened at 10.5 per cent, went up during the day to 10.75 per cent but subsequently eased to 10 per cent at the end of the day. Trading in the 91-day treasury bills picked up with deals worth Rs 34.11 crore being struck in the secondary market.
The three-month paper maturing on September 14 was traded for Rs 5 crore at a yield of 9.60 per cent. The deal was transacted at a price of Rs 99.37.
Another odd quantum deal was struck in the same paper for Rs 4.11 crore. The deal, which was to be settled the same day, was transacted at 10.05 per cent.
The treasury bill maturing on October 12 was traded for a yield of 10.20 per cent at Rs 98.56. The deal was concluded for Rs 5 crore.
The 13.50-per cent central government security maturing in 1997 saw a deal for Rs 13 crore at 13.36 per cent.
