With brokers unwinding huge long positions built up over the past few weeks, the markets took a knock on Friday with the BSE-30 Sensex falling 55.77 points to close at 4,487.87 points. The S&P CNX Nifty closed 17.65 points lower at 1,291.85 points.
The trading volumes at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) surpassed that of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in the wake of higher gross exposure margins. The NSE has made a pitch to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to allow it to further bring down its gross exposure margins, but no decision has been taken as yet.
