The Andhra Pradesh government yesterday sought 500 mw of power from the eastern zone and 200 mw from the western zone on a long-term basis to help it meet the demand in the state over the next three to four years.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu requested for more power allocation to the state after he reviewed the power situation with a high-level infrastructure team from the Centre.
The team, led by the energy minister R Kumaramangalam, included senior officials from the petroleum and gas ministry, the coal department and the railways, besides the power ministry.

Naidu requested that Krishnapatnam in the southern-most district of Andhra Pradesh, Nellore, be identified as a potential location for the super power projects, of capacity ranging between 2,000 and 5,000 mw, being planned by the Centre.
Kumaramangalam said he would examine the state s request on a priority basis.
He said he would examine the facilities to ensure speedy evacuation of power from the eastern and western regions into Andhra Pradesh and the southern grid.
The Union minister said the transmission system needed to be strengthened for inter-regional evacuation of power. He said the Centre would extend all possible help.
