General Insurance Officers All India Association has urged the Kerala government to entrust the implementation of Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana, the health insurance scheme jointly sponsored by the Centre and the Kerala government, with public sector general insurance companies.

Moreover, the four public sector general insurance companies have a vast experience of 40 years in this field. Presence of offices with experienced manpower in every district is an added advantage to them. For the last 5 years, United India Insurance Company was successfully implementing the health insurance scheme.
During last financial year (2011-2012) United India spent Rs 252 crore for medical expense and hospitalisation of 280,1006 families against a premium income of Rs 209 crore.
