DESPITE FAKE autorickshaw fare charts being circulated in the city, the State Transport Authority is yet to take firm action to counter the menace.

Officials claim that they have informed the police and asked them to prosecute those guilty. The charts that are being circulated in several areas of the city have taken commuters by surprise.

The charts, which display March 16, 2000 as a date of issue, have reportedly been in circulation all over the Capital since the last few days.

Several commuters have alleged harassment by autorickshaw drivers on this account.

These charts, which autorickshaw drivers claim were issued after the recent petrol price hike, quote steeper rates per kilometre than the genuine chart.

"It has come to our notice that certain charts are being circulated in the city, which show a rise in auto fares.

We have written to the police about this and they have assured us that strict action will be taken against all errant drivers and vendors," said Mr Virender Singh, principal secretary (transport).

There is a marked difference between the rates of the fake and the genuine charts, which quote auto fares per kilometre.
