The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Messe Frankfurt GmbH -- the trade fair organiser from Germany, announced the first Automechanika India in 1999.

The fair would be held from February 12-17, 1999, concurrently with the 13th Indian Engineering Trade Fair (IETF), at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Automechanika India will be held in co-operation with the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA).

An agreement to this effect was signed by the visiting executive chairman of Messe Frankfurt, Eike Markau, and Pran Talwar, CII, trade fairs wing chairman, in New Delhi yesterday.

Eike Markau said following the founding of a Messe Frankfurt subsidiary in India in 1998, and together with the Confederation of Indian Industry, the Automechanika India series would be held in alternate years to the parent event - Automechanika in Frankfurt.

Giving further details about the fair in 1999 and every two years thereafter, Markau said smaller Indian companies which were unable to make the trip to Automechanika in Frankfurt, will now be able to make profitable international contracts right here in India.

Automechanika India, he said, would be positioned as an international information and contact forum, helping suppliers and investors to maximise their global presence.

Talking about Messe Frankfurt, Markau said the organisation is active not just in Frankfurt, but also outside Germany. Messe Frankfurt's expanding programmes of overseas exhibitions was it's answer to the dynamic developments the world over. Automechanika India adds an exciting chapter to Messe Frankfurt's exhibition portfolio, he added.
