The West Bengal branch of the Bank Employees Federation of India (Befi) has begun a publicity blitzkrieg to build pubic opinion against government plans to sell off shares of nationalised banks.

The union has distributed one lakh leaflets containing 30 statements or questions. Those who have got the leaflets have been requested to tick either `yes' or `no'. They should also write their name, address and describe their profession. The leaflets complete with ticked answers have been advised to be deposited either with a bank employee, or, sent directly to the Befi office.

The West Bengal president of Befi, Samir Ghosh told Business Standard yesterday that the bank employees will also go to houses of those who have received the leaflets to personally collect the papers complete with answers.

The 1-page leaflet printed on both sides has cost the union Rs 15,000 for printing alone.

The Union has taken various routes to reach the leaflet. A large number of leaflets are being distributed to Calcutta through newspaper vendors who are tucking the leaflets inside the fold of the paper.
