It is the first time in the board's 40 years of existence that punitive action has been initiated against CESC to pay up dues.
On Saturday, the board stopped supply of 40 mw of power to CESC consumers. It threatened to continue monitoring supply every morning and evening peak hours until the RPG power utility coughs up its dues.
The power cut at Liluah point will affect industrial consumers on the western side of Hooghly river. The CESC spokesman refused to comment on the issue.
The board said CESC has no reason for holding back its dues when it had announced a profit of 80 crore and a 35 per cent dividend for its shareholders in 1995-96.
