British Airways has decided to increase its Delhi-London capacity by as much as 25 per cent by terminating its operations to Calcutta and Dhaka.

According to a press release, the five -a-week service from Delhi to Dhaka will terminate in Delhi. The twice-weekly service to Calcutta will also terminate in Delhi. Dhaka will be serviced on a separate routing from October 30, 2000 and alternative arrangements would be made for passengers travelling from Delhi to Calcutta.

By terminating these operations, passengers flying to and from Delhi will now be able to benefit from an improved schedule and a new daily service, the release added. These changes were made following the conclusion of the new bilateral agreement which continues to restrict British Airways to 16 services a week between UK and India, but does not award the airline company the ability to terminate all 16 services within India.

Alan Briggs, the South Asia GM for the airways said, "this was a calculated decision based on commercial reasons and the continuation of the services could not be justified on economic grounds."
