Call For National Policy On Water

Image

BSCAL

For solving Delhi water problem, the group has suggested harvesting of monsoon discharge in Yamuna in the Wazirabad left and right bank reservoirs, the horse-shoe lake at Bhalaswa, and the Kalindi Kunj right bank flood plain. Regional channels such as Sahibi Nadi (Najafgarh drain) should be revived and used as on-channel storage and for on-channel recharge. Urban channels, namely the Old Barubulla and the ridge stream and their tributaries, should be revived and used as on-channel storage.

Use of abandoned quarries such as Bhatti mines and Tajpur quarries apart from other small quarries for storage of rainwater and recharge of groundwater should be explored along with revival of regional depressions such as Najafgarh Jheel and the Old Ganga bed on the Hindon river north of Ghaziabad. The group has recommended the repair of existing bunds such as Dhauj and creation of new bunds and check dams as permitted by the topography and hydro-geological conditions.
