Castor Oil Eases By Rs 2; Silver Up, Sugar Mixed

Sunflower oil expeller declined by Rs 5 to Rs 210 per 10 kg on sluggish industrial demand coupled with better inflows. Castor oil commercial and BSS qualities eased by Rs 2 each to Rs 398 and Rs 410 per 10 kg, respectively.

Imported RBD palmolein and imported soy oil refined held overall steady to Rs 210 and Rs 228 per 10 kg, respectively, on easy supplies of imported oil.

Groundnut oil ruled overall steady at Rs 355 per 10 kg on subdued demand coupled with modest arrivals. Out-of-state orders indicated an easy trend.

Castorseeds June-2000 contract opened Rs 8 lower at Rs 1,840 a quintal and held overall steady. September contract opened Rs 10 down at Rs 1,911 a quintal and closed steady at the same level.

 

Castor oil international contract April-2000 opened at Rs 411 per 10 kg and ruled quiet.

Castorseeds softened by Rs 10 at Rs 1,840 per quintal on dull industrial demand. Other oilseeds including castorseeds witnessed a steady trend.

Sugar : Small grade sugar ruled subdued, while mediun grade ruled firm at Turbe, Navi Mumbai. A modest demand led mixed trend in sugar prices.

Small-grade sugar (S-30) declined further to Rs 1,385/1,435 a quintal against the previous level of Rs 1,395/1,445. Medium-grade (M-30) firmed up to Rs 1,440-1,505 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1,435/1,500.

Sugar prices for check-post were quoted higher at Rs 1,380/1,395 a quintal for S-30 grade and Rs 1,420/1,435 for the medium grade.

Non-ferrous metals: An almost weak trend witnessed in the non-ferrous metals market. Metals of both the sections ruled dull to steady.

In scraps, copper heavy scraps, copper utensils and brass utensils declined by Re 1 each to Rs 118.00, Rs 101.00 and Rs 91.00 a kg, respectively. Brass sheetcuttings weakened by Rs 1.50 to Rs 97.00 a kg. Aluminium utensils held overall steady at Rs 69.00 a kg.

In virgins, nickel cathodes firmed up further by Re 1 at Rs 607 a kg. Copper wirebar eased by 25 paise at Rs 126.00 a kg. Aluminium ingots looked up by 50 paise at Rs 90.50 a kg. Other metals were quoted as under : zinc slabs Rs 89.00, lead ingots Rs 35 and tin slabs Rs 372 a kg.

Bullion: A mixed trend witnessed in precious metals prices. Silver ruled firm while gold ruled weak.

Silver .999 and .916 improved by Rs 70 and Rs 80 to Rs 7,920 and Rs 7,775 a kg, respectively,. The demand was better coupled with normal arrivals of imported goods. Delhi advices indicated a moderate trend.

Standard gold and 22 carat gold prices eased by Rs 10 each to Rs 4,370 and Rs 4,040 per 10 gm, respectively. Gold biscuits prices eased further by Rs 150 at Rs 51,100 per piece.
