The CEPA team, which was led by chairman Gordon Wu, impressed upon Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh that the power tariff of Rs 2.41 a unit for northern states and Rs 2.12 a unit for MP and Gujarat were justified and that there was no scope for further reduction in it.

Senior officials of the Central Electricity Authority, who were also present at the meeting, were of the opinion that the tariff was higher by about 15 to 20 per cent and should be brought down accordingly.

CEPA has entered into an MoU with the Indian government and the five states expressing intent for selling power generated at its mega project. The first two units are to supply power to Gujarat and the others to the other four states.

Power Grid will be a catalyst and ensure evacuation of power from the project.
