The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) task force on economic development will meet on May 9 to discuss specific suggestions with the state government, West Bengal Governor Viren Shah said yesterday.

The task force comprises Chief Minister Jyoti Basu, deputy chief minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya, West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) chairman Somnath Chatterjee, among others.

Shah told a meeting of the Ladies Study Group (LSG) yesterday that the state's industrial fortunes were on an upswing. He said he differed with the view that industries were moving out of the state and said there was a change in this direction.

"Haldia and the Mitsubishi project are clear examples that industrial development is taking place", he said. "I will also meet the middle-level industrialists in the state to discuss various issues".
