Tata group auto major Telco yesterday said all vehicles manufactured by the company, including its range of heavy and medium commercial vehicles, would comply with Euro-II emission norms by April next year.
The Supreme Court had set the April 2000 deadline for passenger car manufacturers to meet the Euro-II norms, but did not set any time-frame for commercial vehicles. Commercial vehicles have to meet only the India-2000 norms, equivalent to Euro-I, by next April.
According to industry sources, by deciding to make its range of commercial vehicles Euro-II compliant by April 2000, Telco has practically challenged its competitors, including Ashok Leyland (AL) and Volvo. Both the AL and Volvo range of commercial vehicles are currently Euro-I compliant.
