A survey conducted by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has revealed serious discrepancies in the waste management practices followed by hospitals in Delhi.
The survey, which was conducted in over 60 Delhi hospitals, revealed haphazard, improper and indiscriminate disposal of hospital wastes.
In the case of B L Wadhera Vs Union of India, the Supreme Court had directed hospitals in Delhi having 50 beds and above to install incinerators or alternative methods to ensure treatment and disposal of wastes in an environmentally sound manner.
The apex court had directed the pollution control board to frame guidelines and formulate standards for the purpose. A CPCB release said this had been done. The pollution control boardhas asked the concerned hospitals to strictly adhere to the norms to protect the environment and the health of the people.
