Demat Shares Value Crosses Rs 1000 Crore

The dematerialised value of securities on the National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL) crossed Rs 1,000 crore ($300 million) yesterday.

According to an NSDL statement, against a total market capitalisation of Rs 4,50,000 crore, the market capitalisation of securities for which companies have signed agreements with NSDL is Rs 96,950 crore. Out of this, the market capitalisation of securities available for dematerialisation is Rs 47,690 crore.

The demat requests of more than Rs 1,000 crore on NSDL represents 8 crore shares. Out of this, requests from retail investors constitute 5 lakh shares. So far, 2,037 beneficiary accounts have been opened by investors with different depository participants (DP). This number is in addition to the 647 clearing member accounts opened by NSE member-brokers.

 

According to Gagan Rai, executive director, NSDL, 42 companies have already signed an agreement with NSDL for demat of their shares.

Commenting on the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) placing requests for dematerialisation, Rai said as the due diligence process is complied with more FIIs would come into the fold.
