The department of electronics has prepared a package to attract multinational electronic companies to set up units in the country. At the foundation ceremony of the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (sameer) here yesterday, DoE secretary Shyamal Ghosh said the package has been sent to the finance ministry for approval. We may not not be able to support them by fund as other South-east Asian countries had done, but we can definately make ourselves a bit flexible, he said. Ghosh said he meant economic package such as tax benefits up to 10 years, grant of free land and similar other packages where money was not not directly paid could be offered to the mncs willing to set up units in India. l United News of India
He said we have the environment and ambience that counts for development of research facilities and our scientists have proved that they are inferior to none in the business.
Mr ghosh said from experience it was found that south east asian countries have managed to make progress in the field of electronics by offering huge incentives to companies interested in setting up units in their country.

Commenting on the development achieved by thailand in microwave and chip making in recent years, mr ghosh said that country was able to share about four per cent of the total investment in this sector in the world while we failed to get even any joint venture for semi-conductors because we did not not bother to evolve strategies, simplify our procedures and offer them support.
Pointing to the availability of right environment for hardcore scientific research in india, mr ghosh said the latest example of it was the successful launch of param 2000, the supercomputer from india, which was carried out by a band of dedicated scientists.
It was dedication and commitment which helped us in showing the world that we can do something and we are not not less than anybody else, he said.
Mr ghosh pointed that in software at present we are developing things for lower and lower-medium ends which was not not more than assembling of softwares. We have right environment, right support and human resources and with adequate infrastructure we should be able to achieve some development for hardwares as well.
