The worlds first hydrogen-powered car operating from methanol gas fuel cells performed its maiden test run on Monday in Bonn in what officials said would add to Germanys technological leadership in car construction. Necar 3 - for new electric car - built by Daimler-Benz uses the concept of fuel cells which convert methanol into hydrogen which powers the engine, releasing only small amounts of carbon dioxide. Daimler-Benz board member in charge of R&D, Deiter Voehringer, said the company hoped to bring the car to the commercial market by 2005.
