Gold Up Rs 40, Sugar Firms Up, Castor Oil Steady

Castor oil commercial and FSG were traded steady at Rs 338 and Rs 350 per 10 kg, respectively, on subdued industrial demand against easy inflows.

Imported RBD palmolein firmed up by Re 1 at Rs 213 per 10 kg on modest demand against subdued inflows, while imported soy oil refined held steady at Rs 235 per 10 kg on easy inflows of imported goods and dull offtake.

Castorseeds September contract opened Rs 6 up at Rs 1,511 a quintal and firmed up to Rs 1,513. However, it declined to Rs 1,504 before closing at Rs 1,507 a quintal on speculative movements. December contract opened Rs 15 higher at Rs 1,395 a quintal and declined to Rs 1,383 before closing at Rs 1,385.

 

Castor oil international August contract remained untraded yesterday. October contract was steady at Rs 346 per 10 kg.

Nigerseeds and kardiseeds declined by Rs 25 and Rs 50 to Rs 2,175 and Rs 1,150 per quintal, respectively, on reduced industrial interest against brisk arrivals from the producing centres. All the other oilseeds ruled steady.

Sugar: A firm trend witnessed at Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, yesterday. Both the grades ruled upward to firm up. A better demand led to firm trend in sugar prices.

Small-grade sugar (S-30) looked up further to Rs 1,531/1,555 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1,520/1,545 on improved consumer demand against limited inflows.

Medium-grade (M-30) spiralled further up to Rs 1,555/1,575 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1,545/1,573. Sugar prices for check-post were quoted lower at Rs 1,520/1,535 a quintal for S-30 grade and Rs 1,543/1,555 for the M-30 yesterday.

Non-ferrous metals: A steady to subdued trend was noticed in the non-ferrous metals. The demand was modest against normal supply position.

In scraps, all the metals ruled steady and were nominally quoted as under: copper heavy scraps Rs 123.50, copper utensils Rs 103.50, brass utensils Rs 91.50, brass sheetcuttings Rs 102 and aluminium utensils Rs 74.50 a kg.

In virgins, all the metals ruled quiet and were offered as under: copper wirebar Rs 141.50, aluminium ingots Rs 93, zinc slabs Rs 89, lead ingots Rs 36, tin slabs Rs 368 and nickel cathodes Rs 514 a kg.

Bullion: A firm trend witnessed in precious metals prices. Both the metals spiralled up.

Silver .999 and .916 looked up by Rs 25 and Rs 15 to Rs 8,015 and Rs 7,890 a kg, respectively, on better upcountry advices coupled with modest industrial demand. Delhi advices indicated a moderate trend.

Standard gold and 22 carat gold improved by Rs 40 each to Rs 4,550 and Rs 4,210 per 10 gm, respectively. Gold biscuits prices gained Rs 450 at Rs 53,300 per piece.
