Groundnut Oil Dips Anew; Sugar, Bullion Divergent

Groundnut oil declined further by Rs 3 at Rs 355 per 10 kg yesterday on dull demand coupled with modest arrival of stock.

Castor oil commercial and FSG qualities improved by Rs 7 each to Rs 387 and Rs 399 per 10 kg, respectively. Karanji oil looked up by Re 1 at Rs 178 a kg, while imported RBD palmolein and soya oil refined held overall steady at Rs 210 and Rs 222 per 10 kg, respectively.

Castorseeds June-2000 contract opened Rs 12 lower at Rs 1,784 a quintal and stayed quiet at the same level. September contract opened Rs 60 lower at Rs 1,824 a quintal and dipped to close at Rs 1,810 a quintal.

 

Castor oil international contract April-2000 opened at Rs 400 per 10 kg and ruled quiet at the same level towards closing. Castorseeds improved by Rs 35 at Rs 1,785 per quintal.

Sugar: The local sugar market witnessed a mixed trend yesterday. Small grade sugar (S-30) improved further to Rs 1,390-1,420 a quintal against the previous level of Rs 1,385-1,415.

Medium grade sugar (M-30) eased to Rs 1,430-1,480 a quintal from the previous level of Rs 1,430-1,490 per quintal.

Sugar prices for check-post were quoted higher at Rs 1,380-1,395 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1,410-1,450 for M-30.

Non-ferrous metals: Nickel prices firmed up, while all other metals ruled steady at the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday. Most of the metals in both the sections ruled steady.

In virgins, nickel cathodes looked up by Re 1 at Rs 610 a kg. Meanwhile, all other metals were nominally quoted as under: copper wirebar Rs 126.50, aluminium ingots Rs 90.50, zinc slabs Rs 89.50, lead ingots Rs 34.50 and tin slabs Rs 378 a kg.

In scraps, all the metals ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted as under: copper heavy Rs 118.50, copper utensils Rs 101.25, brass utensils Rs 91.25, brass sheetcuttings Rs 97.25 and aluminium utensils Rs 69 a kg.

Bullion: A mixed trend continued in precious metal prices at the local bullion market yesterday. Silver ruled divergent while gold ruled firm.

Silver .999 firmed up further by Rs 10 at Rs 7,840 a kg on firm overseas advices and modest offtake, while silver .916 ruled overall steady at Rs 7,710 a kg. The demand was modest coupled with normal arrivals of imported goods. Delhi advices indicated a moderate trend.

Standard and 22-carat gold prices firmed up by Rs 20 and Rs 15 to Rs 4,380 and Rs 4,050 per 10 gram, respectively, on firm overseas advices and modest local offtake.

Gold biscuit prices increased by Rs 250 to Rs 51,250 per piece on better offtake and normal inflows of stock, and moderate trading movements.
