Groundnut Oil Dips Further, Bullion Firm

Groundnut oil continued to decline, while most other edible oils ruled easy-to-steady at the wholesale oil and oilseeds market here yesterday.

Groundnut oil declined further by Rs 18 at Rs 452 per 10 kg on sluggish demand backed by brisk arrivals.

In other oils, castor oil commercial and BSS firmed by Rs 3 each to Rs 435 and Rs 447 per 10 kg, respectively. Sesame oil eased by Rs 5 at Rs 455 per 10 kg. Cottonseed oil washed and refined fell by Rs 35 each to Rs 390 and Rs 395 per 10 kg, respectively. Imported palmolein fell back further by Re 1 at Rs 371 per 10 kg.

 

In oilseeds, kardiseeds declined by Rs 50 at Rs 1900 a quintal on reduced industrial demand coupled with better inflows. Castorseeds Madras and Maharashtra improved by Rs 14 each to Rs 1992 and Rs 1986 a quintal, respectively. December contract opened Rs 14 lower at Rs 1,646 a quintal and firmed to Rs 1649. It declined to Rs 1634 before closing to Rs 1641 a quintal.

Sugar: An easy-to-subdued trend was noticed in prices at the wholesale sugar market here yesterday. Both grades ruled subdued.

S-30 eased to Rs 1,455/1,477 against its previous level of Rs 1,450/1,480 a quintal. M-30 declined to Rs 1,475/1,530 a quintal against Rs 1,482/1,540 previously. Meanwhile, sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted higher at Rs 1440/1455 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1463/1482 a quintal for M-30.

Non-ferrous metals: A mixed trend witnessed in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday. Copper heavy scraps improved by 50 paise, while copper utensils, brass utensils and brass sheetcuttings firmed up by 25 paise each to Rs 91.25, Rs 84.25, Rs 85.75 a kg, respectively. Aluminium utensils ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted at Rs 63.50 a kg.

Zinc slabs and lead ingots eased by 50 paise each to Rs 74.00 and Rs 44.50 a kg, respectively. Most other metals were nominally quoted as under : copper wirebar Rs 113.50, aluminium ingots Rs 86.00, tin slabs Rs 382 and nickel cathodes Rs 251 a kg, respectively.

Bullion: A firm trend was noticed in both precious metals in the local market yesterday. Silver .999 and .916 improved further by Rs 75 and Rs 45 to Rs 7,550 and Rs 7,415 a kg, respectively.
