Groundnut Oil Eases By Rs 2; Sugar, Silver Weak

Groundnut oil eased by Rs 2 at Rs 355 per 10 kg on subdued demand coupled with modest arrivals. The trading volume was modest.

Copra oil white and linseed oil declined by Rs 5 each to Rs 400 and Rs 270 per 10 kg, respectively, on sluggish industrial demand coupled with better inflows.

Cottonseed oil refined and imported sunflower oil refined eased by Rs 2 each to Rs 240 and Rs 228 per 10 kg, respectively, on dull industrial demand.

Castor oil commercial and BSS qualities were quoted at Rs 400 and Rs 412 per 10 kg, respectively.

Imported refined, bleached and deodorised palmolein eased by Re 1 at Rs 210 per 10 kg.

 

Castorseeds June-2000 contract opened at Rs 1,850 a quintal, an increase of Rs 2, and declined to closed at Rs 1,848 a quintal. September contract remained untraded.

Castor oil international contract April-2000 opened Re 1 down at Rs 411 per 10 kg and ruled quiet at the same level.

All the other oilseeds including castorseeds ruled overall steady

Sugar: A weak trend continued at Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. Both the grades of sugar ruled subdued.

Small-grade sugar (S-30) declined further to Rs 1,395/1,445 a quintal against the previous level of Rs 1,405/1,455.

Medium-grade (M-30) weakened further to Rs 1,435-1,500 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1,446/1,520. Consumer demand was dull against normal supply position.

Sugar prices for check-post were quoted higher at Rs 1,371/1,390 a quintal for S-30 grade and Rs 1,405/1,420 for the medium grade.

Non-ferrous metals: A steady to firm trend witnessed in the non-ferrous metals.

The demand was modest against normal supply position.

In virgins, nickel cathodes firmed up further by Re 1 at Rs 606 a kg. Copper wirebar looked up further by 25 paise at Rs 126.50 a kg.

Other metals were quoted as under: aluminium ingots Rs 90.00, zinc slabs Rs 89.00, lead ingots Rs 35 and tin slabs Rs 372 a kg, respectively.

In scraps, all the metals ruled overall steady and were quoted as under: copper heavy scraps Rs 119.00, copper utensils Rs 102.00, brass utensils Rs 92.00, brass sheetcuttings Rs 98.50 and aluminium utensils Rs 69.00 a kg, respectively.

Bullion: A mixed trend witnessed in precious metals prices. Silver ruled weak while gold ruled overall steady.

Silver .999 and .916 declined by Rs 40 and Rs 60 to Rs 7,850 and Rs 7,695 a kg, respectively. Delhi advices indicated a moderate trend.

Standard gold and 22 carat gold prices held overall steady at Rs 4,380 and Rs 4,050 per 10 gm, respectively.

Gold biscuits prices eased by Rs 100 at Rs 51,250 per piece on dull offtake and normal inflows of stock and moderate trading movements.
