Groundnut Oil Slips Anew, Sugar Easy, Bullion Firm

A weak trend continued in groundnut oil on brisk arrivals as staffers of the clearing and forwarding agents called off their strike. Other industrial oils ruled easy-to-steady. Imported palmolein ruled weak.

In the futures section, castorseeds June contract remained untraded while the September contract opened down but firmed up towards close. Groundnut oil declined further by Rs 2 at Rs 470 per 10 kg.

In other oils, copra oil white and sunflower oil expeller fell by Rs 5 each to Rs 480 and Rs 420 per 10 kg respectively while kardi oil shot up by Rs 13 to Rs 600 per 10 kg respectively. Rapeseed oil refined and soya oil refined declined by Rs 3 and Rs 5 to Rs 422 and Rs 405 per 10 kg respectively.

 

Imported palmolein eased further by Rs 4 at Rs 378 per 10 kg. The majority of other oils ruled overall steady. In the futures market, castorseed September contract opened Rs 5 higher at Rs 1,435.50 a quintal and firmed up to Rs 1,440. It fell to Rs 1,435 before closing at Rs 1,435 a quintal.

In oilseeds, castorseeds Maharashtra and Madras improved further by Rs 33 each to Rs 1,459 and Rs 1,453 a quintal respectively. Nigerseeds Madras firmed up by Rs 25 at Rs 1,850 a quintal. All oilseeds ruled overall steady on narrow movement.

Sugar: An easy-to-dull trend was witnessed in sugar yesterday. Both grades ruled subdued.

Sugar S-30 eased to Rs 1450/1468 a quintal against the previous Rs 1,445/1,478. Sugar M-30 declined to Rs 1,465/1,500 a quintal against the previous Rs 1,465/1,512.

Sugar for the checkpost deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1430/1440 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1,447/1,460 a quintal for M-30.

Non-ferrous metals : A weak-to-steady trend was noticed on the local non-ferrous metals market. In the virgin section, tin slabs fell further by Rs 2 at Rs 374 a kg on improved arrivals coupled with limited demand. All other metals ruled overall steady. Copper wirebar was quoted at Rs 132 a kg, aluminium Rs 82.50, zinc slabs Rs 79, lead ingots Rs 43 and nickel cathodes Rs 296 a kg respectively.

In scraps, all metals ruled overall steady. Copper heavy scraps was quoted at Rs 115.50 a kg, copper utensils Rs 103.25, brass utensils Rs 89, brass sheetcuttings Rs 92.75 and aluminium utensils Rs 64 a kg respectively.

Bullion: An upward-to-firm trend was witnessed on the local bullion market. Both precious metals extended gains on a strong dollar. Silver .999 and .916 improved further by Rs 40 and Rs 35 to Rs 7,900 and Rs 7,775 a kg respectively on a strong dollar and firm overseas advices. In yellow metals, both standard gold and .22 carat advanced further by Rs 50 and Rs 45 to Rs 4,275 and Rs 3,955 per 10 grammes on firm overseas advices and better consumer offtake. Gold bisucit prices too improved by Rs 400 at Rs 50,200 per piece on firm movements.
