Groundnut Oil, Sugar Up; Bullion Stays Divergent

An upward trend was noticed in groundnut oil on limited arrivals. Other industrial oils ruled easy-to-steady here yesterday. Imported palmolein was weak.

In the futures section, castorseeds June contract remained untraded while the September contract opened lower but firmed towards close.

Groundnut oil firmed up by Rs 2 at Rs 470 per 10 kg.

In other oils, sesame oil and copra oil white improved by Rs 5 each to Rs 435 and Rs 490 per 10 kg respectively.

Linseed oil and kardi oil fell Rs 10 each to Rs 435 and Rs 590 per 10 kg respectively. Karanji oil and soya oil refined eased by Rs 2 each to Rs 190 and Rs 402 per 10 kg respectively.

 

Imported palmolein eased further by Rs 3 at Rs 373 per 10 kg. The majority of other oils ruled overall steady.

In the futures market, castorseeds September contract opened Rs 1.50 higher at Rs 1427.50 a quintal and improved to Rs 1,435. It declined to Rs 1,427.50 before closing at Rs 1,434 a quintal.

In oilseeds, castorseeds Maharashtra and Madras fell by Rs 14 each to Rs 1,440 and Rs 1,434 a quintal respectively. Kardi seeds improved by Rs 25 at Rs 1,875 a quintal. All oilseeds ruled overall steady.

Sugar: An upward trend was witnessed in sugar. Both grades ruled firm. Sugar S-30 moved up to Rs 1,450/1,468 a quintal against the previous Rs 1,450/1,463.

Sugar M-30 firmed up to Rs 1,470/1,510 a quintal against the previous Rs 1,470/1,505. Sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1435/1445 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1,451/1,460 for M-30.

Non-ferrous metals: A firm-to-steady trend was noticed on the local non-ferrous metals market.

In the virgin section, aluminium ingots and lead ingots looked up by 50 paise each to Rs 83 and Rs 43.50 a kg respectively. Zinc slabs firmed up by 25 paise at Rs 79.25 a kg. All other metals ruled overall steady. Copper wirebar was quoted at Rs 132 a kg, tin slabs Rs 372 and nickel cathodes at Rs 296 a kg.

In scraps, copper utensils eased by 25 paise at Rs 103.25 a kg. All other metals ruled overall steady.

Copper heavy scraps was quoted at Rs 115.50 a kg, brass utensils Rs 89, brass sheetcuttings Rs 93 and aluminium utensils at Rs 64 a kg.

Bullion: A divergent trend was noticed on the bullion market. Both precious metals moved in opposite directions. Silver gained marginally while gold ruled easy.

In white metals, silver .999 and .916 gained further by Rs 30 and Rs 15 to Rs 7,935 and Rs 7,815 a kg.

In yellow metals, both standard gold and .22 carat eased by Rs 5 each to Rs 4,270 and Rs 3,950 per 10 grammes. Gold biscuit prices ruled overall steady at Rs 50,200 per piece.
