Groundnut Oil Up, Sugar Weak, Bullion Mixed

Groundnut oil looked up by Rs 2 at Rs 357 per 10 kg on modest demand coupled with subdued arrivals. The trading volume was modest and arrivals were nominal from overseas centres.

Copra oil white and imported sunflower oil refined declined by Rs 5 and Rs 2 to Rs 405 and Rs 230 per 10 kg, restpectively, on dull industrial demand against modest arrivals. Castor oil commercial and BSS qualities firmed up by Rs 2 each to Rs 400 and Rs 412 per 10 kg, respectively. Imported RBD palmolein looked up by Re 1 at Rs 211 per 10 kg.

 

Castorseeds June-2000 contract opened Re 1 up at Rs 1,849 a quintal and firmed to Rs 1,852. It declined to Rs 1,846 before closing at Rs 1,848 a quintal. September contract remained untraded yesterday.

Castor oil international contract April-2000 ruled quiet at at Rs 412 per 10 kg.

Castorseeds looked up by Rs 10 to Rs 1,850 a quintal. All other oilseeds ruled overall steady.

Sugar: A weak trend continued at Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. Both the grades of sugar ruled subdued.

Small-grade sugar (S-30) declined further to Rs 1,405/1,455 a quintal against the previous level of Rs 1,420/1,460 on easy arrivals from upcountry centres and mills coulpled. Medium-grade (M-30) weakened further to Rs 1,446-1,520 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1,450/1,530. Consumer demand was dull against normal supply position. Sugar prices for check-post were quoted higher at Rs 1,370/1,395 a quintal for S-30 grade and Rs 1,410/1,425 for the medium grade yesterday.

Non-ferrous metals: A firm to steady trend witnessed in the non-ferrous metals. Scraps metals ruled firm while virgin metals ruled mostly steady. The demand was modest against normal supply position.

In scraps, copper heavy scraps, copper utensils, brass utensils and brass sheetcuttings improved by Re 1 each to Rs 119.00, Rs 102.00, Rs 92.00 and Rs 98.50 a kg, respectively, on improved industrial demand and restricted availability of ready stock. Aluminium utensils firmed up by 50 paise at Rs 69.00 a kg on better industrial enquires.

In virgins, nickel cathodes shot up by Rs 10 at Rs 605 a kg on firm overseas advices. Copper wirebar looked up by 75 paise at Rs 126.25 a kg. Other metals were quoted as under: aluminium ingots Rs 90.00, zinc slabs Rs 89.00, lead ingots Rs 35 and tin slabs Rs 372 a kg, respectively, on narrow movements.

Bullion: A mixed trend witnessed in precious metals prices. Silver .999 firmed up by Rs 10 at Rs 7,890 a kg on better local offtake and modest overseas advices while silver .916 eased by Rs 5 at Rs 7,755 a kg. The demand was subdued coupled with normal arrivals of imported goods. Delhi advices indicated a moderate trend.
