A complete file in this regard was seized from the younger Chhabria's residence in Mumbai, which include a signed agreement between Rorquel and UB Supplies executed in September 1992, and another supplementary loan agreement made in January 1993.

Two letters were also unearthed, signed by Surjit Walwalekar, director of UB Supplies, acknowledging the receipt of the loans totalling $4.5 million. Documents also reveal that the alleged loan agreement was witnessed by Slaughter & May, a London-based legal firm.

The transaction was also witnessed by V S Kumar and T V Laxmikantan, directors of the UB group based in Singapore and England, respectively.

When questioned by the I-T authorities, Kishore had said that Walwalekar had forged the letters to implicate him and had threatened to take legal action against the UB group employee.

However no criminal complaint has been lodged against Walwalekar.

I-T sources have, however, admitted that no conclusive evidence of Chhabria's nexus has been established as yet. But, they say, incriminating documents have been seized. Questioned by the I-T authorities, Chhabria had said that these workings relate to negotiations held with S D Lalla, managing director of Herbertsons, for raising a loan of $4.5 million against Chhabria's stake in the company.

Meanwhile, the directors of investigation wing of the IT dept of Calcutta, Mumbai and New Delhi are meeting in Mumbai on September 13 to discuss the Shaw Wallace investigations, income tax sources said.
