Speaking at a dinner hosted by Australias resources and energy minister Warwick Parer in Canberra on Tuesday, Baishya said: My government is committed to developing transparent polices which would serve as a catalyst for promoting increased investments in the crucial mining sector in India.

The United Front government had given clearance to virtually all pending proposals for collaboration in the sector, he said, adding that among the 19 projects cleared, six were from Australian companies. India had enjoyed assured availability of Australian coal and Indias steel plants would need increasing amounts of the mineral as the countrys economic growth gathered momentum.

Our endeavor is also to increase the capacity of Indian coal mines to meet the domestic demand, for which we are looking forward to increasing outputs of investment and expertise from abroad,he said.

We are confident that Australia will join us in the efforts we are making to rapidly expand industrial output and productivity in these key sectors of our economy, he said.
