The state cabinet has approved the power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 20 mw project in Kasargode district to be set up by the RPG group, state electricity minister Pinarayi Vijayan told the state assembly yesterday.
Replying to a calling attention motion by Cherkulam Abdulla (IUML) on power scarcity and related problems in Kasargode district, Vijayan said the government attached top priority to solve the difficulty faced by the people in the area as a result of low voltage and inadequate supply of power. He said the demand of the area was largely met by electricity supplied from the adjoining Karnataka. As per the agreement, Karnataka was to supply 25 mw of power. However, due to line problems the actual supply often stood at 15 mw. The work on 220 kv substation at Myalatti would be completed on a war footing.
Subsequently, the strength of the line from Karnataka would be stepped up, the minister said.
